Meet Tenisha Hunter
Tenisha Hunter is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor (LCSW-S) with over a decade of experience supporting adults through life’s most difficult transitions. A San Antonio native and graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Tenisha brings deep knowledge of the community and a strong clinical foundation to her work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, life changes, and co-occurring medical conditions.
“As part of our sessions, I always consider how your past influences the barriers of your present. Throughout life, we learn “scripts” about who we are, what other people think of us, and who we think we should be. By talking about your past and childhood, we can find connections to the challenges you’re facing in your life, and come up solutions for the problems you face.”
Tenisha’s Background and Experience
Education and Training:
Tenisha earned her Master’s in Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin. She has received advanced training and supervision in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) from Penny Kruger, one of Texas’s foremost DBT experts.Clinical Experience:
Since 2009, Tenisha has provided individual and group therapy to adults 18 and over. Her experience spans hospital discharges, chronic medical issues, and emotional challenges stemming from past and present trauma. She has worked with hundreds of clients using DBT to bring about measurable, lasting improvement in emotional regulation, self-awareness, and daily functioning.Therapeutic Approach:
Tenisha blends traditional talk therapy—drawing from psychoanalytic and solution-focused methods—with the practical tools of DBT. Her work helps clients understand the “scripts” they’ve inherited from earlier life experiences and find freedom from the patterns that no longer serve them. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and focused on real-life change.Availability:
Tenisha is currently accepting new clients aged 18 and older for both individual and group therapy. Tenisha is licensed in Texas, practicing in person therapy at our office in North San Antonio, and teletherapy by video call all across Texas.
In addition to her clinical work, Tenisha also provides supervision for LMSWs working toward their LCSW licensure in Texas.
“Tenisha helped me come to the realization that I might need more help than just touch base therapy every now and then. Through her I was connected to a DBT program that helped my brain and impacted my life in the best way possible. She listened to me every step of the way and has continued to offer resources, encouragement, and space to just be as I tackle my healing journey. I am forever appreciative.”
